New Area Code for Oregon

If you haven't been notified by your dial tone provider we wanted to inform you that the Oregon Public Utility commission has approved adding a new area code to the state. The new area code will be 458 and will share the same area being served by 541.

Phone

You will be required to dial the full 10-digit telephone number to make local calls. This means that ALL local calls will require the 541 or 458 area code + 7-digit telephone number. Long distance calls will remain the same (dial 1 + area code + 7 digit telephone number).

Beginning January 10, 2010 you must begin dialing the 10-digit telephone number. Your call will not be completed and a recording will provide instructions if you do not use the 10-digit dialing.

Beginning February 10, 2010 new telephone lines or services may be assigned the new 458 area code.

More information on this change can be found on the Oregon Public Utility Commission's website.

If your phone system is automatically transferring or forwarding calls to a local number, we will need to re-program it to use the 10-digit phone number. Also, all speed dials will need to be re-programmed.

Instructions for changing the speed dials can be found on our website at www.precom-inc.com under the Support Section.
